DRAFT REDFERN CENTRE GUIDELINES
The Draft Redfern Centre Urban Design Guidelines were exhibited to the public from 9th December to 22nd January. The RWA is currently reviewing submissions.

The Draft Redfern Centre Urban Design Principles (links to UDP pdf attached again) have been prepared in accordance with Clause 22 Part 5 (Redfern-Waterloo Authority sites), Schedule 3 of the State Environmental Planning Policy (Major Development).
Clause 22 of the SEPP requires that development on RWA sites exhibits design excellence. Clause 22 also provides for the preparation of a guideline, which details matters to be addressed to achieve design excellence. The Draft Redfern Urban Design Principles have been prepared in consultation with the RWA Built Environment Ministerial Advisory Committee for this purpose. The final principles will be subject to approval by the Minister for Planning.
The final principles will assist the RWA and Department of Planning in the assessment of applications under Part 4 and Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, including the preparation of Director General Environmental Assessment Requirements.
The Draft Redfern Centre Urban Design Principles:
- Provide further guidance on design issues that development within the Redfern Centre need to address to achieve design excellence;
- Identify landmark sites within Redfern Centre that may benefit from a design competition process;
- Establish the Director General Design Excellence Guidelines as the basis for the conduct of any design competitions within the Redfern Centre; and
- Were developed in consultation with the Redfern -Waterloo Built Environment Ministerial Advisory Committee and community representatives.
